Media Type: Novel (341 Pages)
Genre: Action-oriented conspiracy thriller
Author: James Swallow

Synopsis:

Deus Ex: Icarus Effect is a novel that follows two new protagonists within the Deus Ex universe, Secret Service agent Anna Kelso and Belltower PMC operative Ben Saxon as they unravel a conspiracy that stretches the entire globe. The story is set in 2027, 25 years prior to the original Deus Ex and running parallel to the story of Human Revolution. Some familiar faces from the original Deus Ex make an appearance as well as a very brief mention of Human Revolution protagonist Adam Jensen. The story sort of sets up the events of the newest entry in the Deus Ex franchise, but stands out as a great story in its own right and can be enjoyed in a self-contained manner for someone with no knowledge of the Deus Ex story or universe. The author of the book is also one of the story writers on Human Revolution, which makes me very delighted as he obviously has great love and understanding for the source material. All in all, an excellent read, and I hope more DX novels follow.
