It's been a while since our last update, but there has been a whole lot going on! From going to South Carolina, to buying and renovating a house, its been a hectic month! Regardless, there is always time for site updates! We have done many, many changes to the website since our last update, so many I've probably forgotten some of them by now. I really should write these things down in the future. :) We completed a big overhaul of the website structure for better uniformity and stability in the future. We've updated the forums and fixed the Arcade system so all games play nicely now. We've changed the font of the website again to help readability on different devices and improve site load times. The format of the website was...

This week we saw the passing of one of the greatest entertainers this world has ever known. The man brought laughter and joy to all of us, and those people who grew up with him have likely felt the great loss that his death has brought. While we generally don't post about celebrity news on ZX, we had to make an exception due to Robin William's daughter. We may all be Zelda fans, but how many of us can say we named one of our children after the title character of the game? Robin Williams did, and Robin Williams did four commercials for Nintendo's Legend of Zelda games. We have compiled and uploaded the video compiling all four of his Zelda commercials as our dedication and remembrance of a great man...
Nintendo announced this morning that a special Hyrule Warriors focused Nintendo Direct will be streamed August 4th at 8PM PDT (11PM EST). Hyrule Warriors being a mashup of two distinct series, Dynasty Warriors and obviously the Legend of Zelda, looks to be cramming in the content as we approach it's release date. Hyrule Warriors is expected to drop on August 14th in Japan, September 26th in the USA, and the week before in European Territories. Are you excited for this game? Site wise, we have done some major changes on the backend and we have finally figured out and fixed the annoying bug that caused the home page to load slower than the rest of the pages on the website. Before, it took roughly 3 seconds to load the home page - now it...
One of the features I've worked on has been streaming video. It has been a long process where I would work off and on for several months on getting it working. It was one of those things where I would work on it, get stuck at some point, and come back to it later with a fresh mind. Streaming the videos isn't too hard, but allowing the user to skip around was quite a challenge. Nevertheless, streaming videos on Zelda Xtreme is now a thing. Right now, we have a selection of mostly retro Zelda videos, from the first Legend of Zelda commercial, but we also have more recent videos such as the Link Between Worlds trailer. We also have beta footage from Ocarina of Time, and the E3 2006 showcase of the Wii. We plan to add more videos over...
Just wanted to give a quick update on what we've been working on this week. We've added back the Articles section where staff members and other users submit their opinions on various gaming subjects. Soon to come in the next GamerCard update is a redesign to the card itself. We are looking at adding at least the Nintendo Wii U NNID's & 3DS Friend Code to the cards which requires the design to be adjusted. We are also playing around with a Steam API for a future update as well. In the meantime, make sure you have this information entered into your profile. We've also made more improvements to the overall performance of the website. Do you notice any differences? Is the site really fast for you, or do you notice slowdowns? Let us know!
We've updated the GamerCard Generator to version 2.1. This mainly fixes a problem where some users's cards were not updated under certain conditions. We also fixed an issue with the Xbox side of things were sometimes games would not show up when they should. We also changed the Xbox 360 and PS3 icon to be a more generic xbox live and playstation network icons due to the Playstation Vita/Playstation 4/Xbox One now being a factor in these.
http://www.youtube.com/embed/eFlDtWn0-64 Zelda Wii U was shown off for the first time today during Nintendo's E3 presentation. Above you can see the trailer for the upcoming, open-world (yes, really!) Zelda. I was surprised to see that they kept the Skyward Sword style of artwork, but it looks amazing nonetheless. What do you think? Arriving in 2015, this looks to be one of the most expansive Zelda yet. We also have a few site updates for you guys! We've completely redone the poll as to make it random on every page you visit. I think this will make it more fun for our users to vote on different subjects without having to wait a week for the new poll to come out. The counter has also been fixed to actually work. Not a major deal for...
We've added more songs to our Link Between Worlds Soundtrack page. We are at 57 songs all together, and hopefully we will have the entire listing soon!
Hey resident Xtremers. We've got a few updates for your this month! First off, we are pleased to announce a new hosted site: The Straw Hats! The website is a central hub for their FFXIV Free Company. They have a wide variety of tools at your disposal, and should be looked into especially if you play FFXIV on the Adamantoise server. As far as the Zelda Xtreme website is concerned, we have added over 50 new tracks to our Live Radio per user request. So check it out. :) We've also added a leaderboard to our Gamercards section to show off our most hardcore of users. The level of the gamercard is based off posts and referrers, so get busy and you too may join our top ranks! ;) On a final note, tomorrow is the last day for the majority of...
We've fixed a couple of links on the Link Between Worlds soundtrack page, more specifically the tracks for "Fairy Fountain" and "Hilda's Theme". If you downloaded the entire zip file, then you don't have to worry as they were already included there. Just the individual links were broken. Thanks for the viewer who brought this to our attention. :)
It was brought to my attention that sometimes, mostly on Internet Explorer, the site would load then switch to a white screen. This was due to a bug in the hit counter and I have replaced it with a home-made script. Sorry for those affected and thanks for those who submitted the bug report!
Back in November, I uploaded a test video of a recording of A Link Between Worlds using at the time a very jerry-rigged setup of a box and a DSLR. The results were okay, but not optimal and not very efficient as I would have to keep the 3DS perfectly still and even then the video quality wasn't the best. Thankfully last week, my wife sent off one of my 3DS to be retrofitted with a video capture device. Below is the video taken from the device. As you can see, a big improvement. http://www.youtube.com/embed/8Hece9JZ140 This will play a big part in my plans going forward with the website. I can't give the full details now as they are still in the testing phase, but I have done some very fiddly tasks on the back-end over the past...
Like a cat with a ball of string, I can't stop fiddling with the layout. I went back on my decision to add drop down menus for some of the items. I felt like this was adding unnecessary bulk to most pages, and at the same time, was not really a feature that is part of what the website's "purpose" is. That being trying to replicate the feel of early Zelda fan sites in the modern Internet age. Trying to balance between having a retro looking website, using the latest standards, and keeping the website performance as best as it can be has been a fun challenge. That said, I'm sure there will be more tweaks in the future. Currently, the drop down menu has remained for the games content, but that will probably change. On the plus side, the...
It's been a long time coming, but here is the continuation of our Wind Waker play-through. In this episode, we start our quest to collect the Triforce shards to defeat Ganon. http://www.youtube.com/embed/2Vy5618ckQI
We've gone back through the stockpile of requests and have added some requested images to our GamerCard Generator. We've also added some that weren't requested, but are more recent popular titles. We've also fixed some bugs on the script itself, and are still looking into the bug that sometimes makes the images not change correctly when you are choosing your selection. Check back soon for that. We've also added some more tracks to our Live Radio, and some improvements to our mobile website.
Who remembers this video from way back in 2005? Shortly before the reveal of the Wii at E3 2005, this video was released claiming to be a leaked copy of Nintendo's new system. Showcasing a virtual reality headset among other features, the Nintendo ON created quite a buzz in the Nintendo fanbase with people believing the video to be real with others skeptic, but hopeful. Even Nintendo itself thought the video was well done. Interestingly the guy who created the Nintendo ON video, Pablo Belmonte, is also the same guy who created the Majora's Mask Wii U video that was released right before E3 2012. Obviously now we all know this was a hoax, but back then it was a really interesting concept and seemed to be inline of what Nintendo was...
We did a major server update this morning that brought the server down for a few hours to make improvements on the backend. For our frequent visitors, you should notice some more speed improvements, particularly on the forums.
Another heads up today for our users. Without much of an announcement, Nintendo has re-released Four Swords Anniversary Edition onto the 3DS eShop and it is completely free. Be fast though, as it will only be free for the next four days. Whether this means it will be removed from the eShop or just won't be free after those four days remains to be seen. Four Swords Anniversary Edition was one of the GBA titles given to early adopters of the 3DS as part of the 3DS Ambassador Program. Does this signal the beginning of GBA games coming to the 3DS? Let's hope.
Most of you will have noticed, or at least you will have by the time you have read this, that we have made further changes to the site's styling. Gone is the right menu, instead replaced by a dropdown menu for all the former items on the right hand side. Reasons for this change was it made the website look too cluttered, and now I have more freedom in regards to the content section as it is much wider. We also changed the site's font and size to one that is hopefully easily more readable for our users. Let us know what your thoughts are on this font and if you like it more than the one previous. Lastly we fixed a lot of bugs that were from the last site update: The web radio is now showing the correct title of the song while...
